Mandatory Trades Registration and Licensing

IMPORTANT!

It will soon be mandatory for all trades to be registered or employees to be licensed in order to undertake works on job sites for builders.

Mid-2021 is when carpenters must commence their applications to be registered or licensed. Carpenters are the only trade involved in this first stage which remains open for 12 months. Further trades fall under stage 2 including bricklayers, painters, concreters and others. Stage 2 will commence in 2022.

This means that if you are working with a builder as a subcontractor or employee, you will need to apply for registration/licensing. If you are a carpenter, you must do so in Stage 1 in 2021. We even recommend commencing the process now so that you are ready when applications open to mitigate any disruption to your business.

Penalties for having unregistered or unlicensed trades on site are enormous and builders simply won’t take that risk. So contact @hia_au or @masterbuildersvic today to see how you can go about getting yourself registered or licensed to ensure you are able to continue working on site beyond July 2021.

Please let me know if you need any clarification.

Take care and stay safe.
